XILINX ASIA PACIFIC HQ BUILDING - Green Mark Platinum Award

First private sector and industrial project to be awarded BCA Green Mark Platinum award 2007. BSD employed the use of computational simulation software packages to assess building designs and thereby recommended improvements to optimise designs and equipment selection. BSD conducted natural ventilation simulations as a design assessment tool for the sky gardens within the building.

Sun path analysis, solar radiation simulations and glare analysis was also conducted to determine the daylighting and solar radiation exposure on the roofs and facades of the building. Energy modeling was conducted to evaluate and optimize plant and equipment selection. BSD also led the verification of the building’s energy consumption one year after occupancy in accordance with BCA GMIS requirements.

 

 


Mapletree Business City- Green Mark Platinum Award

MBC is a Grade A office development situated along Pasir Panjang Road. It comprises of 3 blocks of office towers having a total GFA of more than 184,000 sqm. BSD was engaged as the ESD consultant from the onset of the project. We adopted an integrated design approach and successfully delivered a Green Mark Platinum project to the developer- Mapletree Investments Ltd. Key green features included:

  • Heat recovery from the condenser waste heat for swimming water pool heating.
  • Chilled water plant of 0.623 kW/ton.
  • Annual water savings of approximately 44 no. of Olympic size swimming pools
 

 


313@ Somerset Retail Mall - Green Mark Platinum Award

313@Somerset is a retail mall along the busy Orchard Road shopping belt. The 8-storey mall has a total GFA of about 28,000 sqm. BSD was heavily involved in the project right from concept design stage. We provided design advisory services through the use of computational simulation in the analysis of thermal comfort at outdoor dining areas, daylighting levels within the mall, solar radiation on the facades and total energy consumption of the mall. BSD also advised on the use of an innovative thermal energy storage system as well as heat recovery system for the mall. We are currently also verifying the mall’s energy consumption following its first year of operations.

 

 


Tampines Grande Office development- Green Mark Platinum Award

Tampines Grande is one of the first few office developments in Singapore to be awarded the prestigious Green Mark Platinum award. As the ESD consultant, BSD worked with the team to deliver a building with a high level of energy and water efficiency, environmentally friendly site operations, green building materials and good indoor environmental quality. The building was able to enjoy energy savings of more than 30%. Amongst some of the green features are rain water harvesting for irrigation purposes, non-chemical water treatment for the cooling towers, cold plasma air filters for good indoor air quality and use of Green Label building materials.

 

 


Mapletree Anson Office Development- Green Mark Platinum Award

Mapletree Anson is a Grade A office development in the central business district of Singapore. The 19 storey office tower has a GFA of about 35,657 sqm.

Some of its key green features includes good passive design with no direct East and West facing facades, high energy efficiency cooling plant, recycling of AHU condensate water, energy efficient lighting system, motion sensors, amongst other.

The building is able to achieve 2,300,000kWh per year of energy savings and 19,000m3/yr of water savings.

 

 


Asia Square Towers 1 and 2- Green Mark Platinum Award/ LEED Platinum (Precert)

AST 1 and 2 is located at the heart of Singapore’s brand new business and financial precinct of Marina Bay. The integrated mixed-use development comprises office space of about 218,000 sqm, a 16,000 sqm retail mall as well as a 280-room hotel. BSD was involved right from project planning stages and hence able to contribute immensely towards all aspects of the design.

Key green features included Singapore’s first on-site biodiesel plant that is able to convert waste cooking oil into bio-diesel. The plant is currently producing 1000 litres of biodiesel a week for use in its construction activities. CFD analysis was also conducted to identify door treatment methods that will achieve the least amount of aircon loss. The development is expected to consume approximately 33 per cent less energy and 40 per cent less water as compared to most standard commercial buildings. It has also been pre-certified to LEED Platinum status.

Bishopsgate Residences- Green Mark Platinum Award

Bishopsgate Residences comprises of 29 numbers of super-luxury condominiums and a pair of semi-detached houses. As the ESD consultant, BSD proposed passive design alternatives. We conducted airflow simulations to assist in space planning within the units to ensure effective cross ventilation. We also worked alongside the team to implement sustainable green features such as heat insulation wall designs, energy efficient lighting fixtures, low VOC interior paints and coatings, building materials with high recycled content, amongst others.

 

 


Cliveden @ Grange- Green Mark Platinum Award

Cliveden @ Grange comprises of 4 blocks of 24-storey luxury residential development with a total of 110 units. BSD conducted airflow simulations at conceptdesign phase and used this as basis to explore possible design changes to improve airflow into and within the units. The subsequent unit layout design was one that promoted good cross ventilation.

 

 


Treelodge @ Punggol- Green Mark Platinum Award

Treelodge @ Punggol is a public housing precinct of seven 16-storey blocks in a site area of 2.9 hectares, comprising 712 public residential units. BSD conducted natural ventilation simulations to assess the airflow around the precinct, common areas and dwelling units. We worked with HDB architects in identifying block orientation, internal unit layout, window sizing and locations, etc to maximum cross ventilation effects.

 

 


The Arte- Green Mark Goldplus Award

Arte consists of 2 blocks of 36 storey residential development with a total of 336 units. BSD provided ESD consultancy services for the development as well as conducted airflow studies to assist the design in achieving good cross ventilation within residential apartments. We also advised on energy and water conservation, site and project management, IEQ and innovative green features.

The buildings are oriented to minimise direct West facing and provision of planter boxes and balconies to provide shade while allowing for good natural ventilation. Rainwater is harvested for landscape irrigation and cleaning purpose. The estimated energy saving is 2,034,093 kWh/yr and water saving is 4,500 m3/yr.It was also the first project in Singapore to make use of coconut husk to replace lean concrete.
The glazed facades were also installed with a self-cleansing coating.

 

 


Volari Condominium – Green Mark Platinum Award

Volari Condominium comprises of 1 block of 12-storey residential development totalling 85 units. BSD conducted extensive airflow simulations to assist in design development and to ensure good natural ventilation. Simulations were used in one particular instance to study if changes in window opening sizes would affect airflow velocities and profiles.

It was noted that under prevailing South wind conditions, the reduction in opening sizes resulted in a 30% reduction in air velocities. However, the wind velocities remained within comfort ranges. The simulations assisted the designers in determining the optimum window sizing for comfort conditions.

 

 


Goodwood Residences- Green Mark Platinum Award

Goodwood Residences comprises of a 12 storey condominium of 39750 sq m (210 units). It boosts a vertical green wall of 1800 sq m complimenting up to 50 nos of conserved trees and 500 plants of indigenous species. BSD participated in this project as it airflow consultant.

We conducted airflow studies to assess the natural ventilation conditions at common areas within the estate, common corridors, lift lobbies and typical residential apartments.

BSD conducted studies and computer simulations to investigate the mechanical cooling strategies at the All-day dining area. Our simulations allowed recommendations to be made on the locations of cooling diffusers and provided scientific data on the height of air stratification to ensure thermal comfort at studied area.

Stack-up factory at Tanjong Kling- Green Mark Gold Award- Green Mark Gold

There is no west facing facades. Airflow simulations were used as design optimization tool to ensure good natural ventilation within the factory units. Rainwater harvesting is also designed into the development to capture and reuse for irrigation purposes. Green label products were used extensively within the building. Self cleaning and anti-bacteria coatings were installed on the sanitary wares for good hygiene purposes.

 

 

 


United World College, Tampines Campus- Green Mark Platinum Award

The United World College, Tampines Campus school campus development is located at Tampines and comprises of an administrative block, education block, Infant block. boarding house and sports hall totaling about 77,000m2 in GFA.  The occupied spaces at these blocks are fully air-conditioned. BSD conducted energy modeling to assist in the selection and design of energy consuming plant and equipment.

 

 

 


Changi Airport Terminal 3- Green Mark Gold Award

BSD conducted energy modeling to model and verify the energy consumption of the complex including its Arrival, Department, Lounges, F&B outlets, Retail spaces, Baggage handling systems, etc. The project was highly complex as it consisted of numerous thermal zones and differentiated operating schedules

 

 

 


Singapore Sports Hub Project

BSD was engaged as a tender evaluation committee member to evaluate the various submitted design proposals for good thermal comfort as well as to develop guidelines governing the design of the stadium for good thermal comfort and energy efficient cooling systems.

 

 

 


Changi Airport Terminal 2 Departure area

BSD conducted thermal comfort studies at passenger transit area. Air velocity and human comfort site measurements were conducted. Computer simulations of air movement and heat build-up were then conducted to ensure that thermal comfort levels are achieved.
